3 Reasons Why You Aren’t Losing Fat

Fat loss seems to be the hot topic for me these days. Finally we are seeing a shift away from just talking about the scale and weight loss. More and more people want to have muscle, AND see that hard-earned muscle. And for good damn reasons. So here-here to talking about the real thing many of us are trying to move towards – letting go of the excess fat.

If you caught my Facebook Live a few weeks ago I gave my top five fat loss tips. This live was a HIT and I was flooded with comments and pm’s in the aftermath. Talking real and applicable to #life is my jam. So I figured I would follow up with some more goodness this week.

Here’s three reasons why you may not be losing fat (even if you think you are doing all the things):

1. Your Perception is Skewed. Do you think you know what 1tbsp of peanut butter is? Grab a measuring utensil and your wallet as I bet you $50 your off. What we think we are eating and what we are actually eating can make a drastic dent in our progress. And the same goes for intensity of our workouts. How hard we think we are pushing, vs how hard we are really pushing, can make the difference in fat loss results. So how do we get real with what’s really happening? Get honest with yourself, start tracking your food and your workouts and make a plan to push from where you are to where you want to be.

2. You are Following S**t Advice. There’s this long standing joke in my family where my mother tells us a ‘fact’ and we reply – “what did you read that in Chatelaine magazine.” Here’s the thing…..there is some HORRIBLE information out there when it comes to ‘how to lose fat’. My two favourites are “just go into a calorie deficit” and “just do more cardio”. Though PARTS of these pieces of advice hold truth, it really isn’t actually that simple. Our bodies are not static and there are MANY external factors that influence our bodies (can you say hormones!). When it comes to fat loss we need to be listening to knowledgable WHOLE BODY approach creditable people that know what the f they are talking about. Check. Your. Sources. And ensure there isnt a one size fits all approach being given out left right and centre.

3. You Lack Patience. How long did it take you to get where you are now? So is it realistic to think that overnight you will blast off the fat for good? I think you know the answer to that one. Likely the hardest part of fat loss is patience. I get it, most of us have very little of it. But I promise you one thing, have a little faith, be discipline, follow good advice and do the things, and it WILL come together all in time!
